Release Notes for Surveillance Station

Surveillance Station is a web-based application that can manage IP cameras to safeguard your home or office environment. With Surveillance Station, you can watch and record live view videos, set up scheduled recording, playback recorded events via web browser, VisualStation, or mobile device for remote monitoring. Notifications can also be sent to you whenever important events occur.

Compatibility and Installation

  1. Surveillance Station 6.1-2941 requires DSM 4.0 and onward. DS109j and DS209j are not supported due to hardware performance. Surveillance Station 6.1-2941 will be the last version to run on DSM 4.2.

What’s New

  1. Surveillance Station CMS has been enhanced to be more efficient in large-scale deployment.
  2. Support Windows AD Domains and Trusts, and LDAP.
  3. Notification can now be batch edited.
  4. Multiple live-view screens are now available for the TV wall solution.
  5. Field of View provides options for users to change the range of image to adjust the streaming performance.
  6. Bitrate can now be manually set up for bandwidth control.
  7. Multiple codec engines are now available for dual-stream support.
  8. TV Standard allows users to switch the TV system between PAL and NTSC to have different resolution and frame rate.
  9. RTSP/RTP Tunneling Protocol enables users to choose among four protocols (Auto, UDP, TCP and HTTP) to determine how to connect to the camera.
  10. Replaced Java with Surveillance Plugin for Internet Explorer, Chrome and Firefox on Windows to improve the live view performance and loading time, and to avoid Java security issues.
  11. Supports 49 channels on single Live View with 1080p resolution on the client PC.
  12. Made the Live View loading speed five times faster.
  13. On-screen operations are available for Live View, Timeline, and event player. Operations include PTZ control, Snapshot, Pause, Manual Recording, Iris, and Focus for Live View; Seek, Smart Search, and Recordings Download for Timeline.
  14. E-map management is now enhanced. Camera preview by clicking the icon on e-map is available.
  15. Auto daylight saving mode is now supported in Timeline.
  16. Device Pack is now available for enriching camera library in the future.
  17. Removed Virtual Fence and Tally Counter from analytic tools.
  18. More than 80 new camera models have been added from Axis, Sony, Samsung, and Panasonic. Please refer to Camera Support List on Synology website.
  19. Minor bug fixes.

Special Notes

  1. Live View performance depends on the client PC specification. 49ch@1080p@10FPS@H.264 was tested on the following PC specifications: (CPU Intel Xeon Quad-Core E3-1230 V3 @ 3.30 GHz; RAM: 16 GB (independent display card is required)
  2. Loading time difference compared between 6.0-2719 and 6.1-2909 is tested with Chrome and Firefox browsers. The test result may vary depending on different environments. (PC Specifications: CPU Pentium Dual-Core E5400 2.7GHz with 2 GB memory; Synology NAS: DS1513+)

Known Issues

  1. Issues of live feeds with H.264 and HLS on some certain mobile devices are now under investigation.

  1. Surveillance Station 6.0-2636 does not support DS108j and DS109j, and it will be the last upgrade for DS209j due to hardware capabilities.
  2. All Synology NVR must run Surveillance Station 6.0-2636 or later to set up Surveillance Station CMS.
  3. Existing paired CMS servers will have to go through the pairing process with DSM’s admin password after upgrading to Surveillance Station 6.0-2636.
  4. Central Management System (CMS) has been redesigned for large-scale and high level enterprise surveillance projects:
    • A Synology NVR can act as a “CMS host,” providing a single entry point to manage your entire surveillance system.
    • Multiple Synology NVR can be designated as “Recording servers” to provide recording storage and resources for IP camera installation.
    • The camera list can now be quickly filtered by different criteria, such as server, camera group, brand, model, and more.
    • Recordings can now be filtered by server, camera, start time, and more.
    • Customized CMS access privileges can be assigned to different users and groups.
    • Notifications can be managed on the CMS host to provide a CMS level notification center.
    • Camera licenses on all recording servers are centralized on the CMS host to simplify management.
    • Logs from recordings servers are centralized on the CMS host to offer easy access and smart filtering.
    • Advanced filtering options are now available throughout the CMS user interface, offering a quick and unified search experience.
  5. Tunneling can be implemented to stream MPEG4, H264 via RTSP over HTTP.
  6. Digital zoom is now available when live view is paused.
  7. Image quality has been improved when adjusting digital zoom in/out.
  8. Live view performance has been improved.
  9. Notifications can now be sent to VS240HD.
  10. New camera models have been added from Axis, ACTi, D-Link, and Edimax.
  11. Minor bug fixes.
