Bellevue, Washington—Synology America Corp. today announced the first model in its new XS+ series of network attached storage (NAS), the RS3413xs+. The new XS+ series is designed to offer unrivaled performance for the price. By taking advantage of up to 2 RX1211RP expansion modules, it can quickly scale up to 34 bays (up to 136 raw storage).
The RS3413xs+ is designed with high performance in mind. The new model includes 4 gigabit Ethernet ports and supports the addition of a 10Gb Ethernet card. It is the first Synology release to support SSD caching to boost throughput while still maximizing storage size by using platter drives. With support for AES-NI (New Instructions), shared folder encryption gets accelerated performance.
The RS3413xs+ focuses, not only on speed, but on reliability. It ships with 8GB ECC RAM (expandable to 32GB) to detect and correct errors in transmission. Redundant power supplies, passive CPU cooling, and adaptive fan behavior are designed to maximize uptime. In addition, the XS+ series will be the first to operate with Synology's upcoming High Availability for quick cluster failover in the event of an interruption to one node.
“The RS3413xs+ is simply peerless at its price point,” said Jason Bonoan, Product Marketing Manager at Synology America Corp. “This makes for an excellent value proposition both performance and reliability-wise. This would be at home in any virtual network.”
The RS3413xs+ is ideally suited for storage in virtual networks, supporting both iSCSI and NFS. It is certified for VMware® vSphere™ 5, Microsoft® Windows Server 2012 with Hyper-V™, and Citrix® XenServer™. It offers VAAI integration, including Hardware Assisted Locking (ATS), Block Zero, Full Copying, and Thin Provisioning.
