Founded in 2011, PT. Altama Surya Anugerah is a company focused on the distribution of power tools, hand tools, and lubricants for maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) activities. The company is the primary distributor for several brands, one of them being TEKIRO, a leading hardware tool manufacturer in Indonesia. TEKIRO is known for its diverse lineup of high-quality tools for both home and industrial use and has consistently won the Digital Popular Brand Award in Indonesia.
The Challenge
Legacy backup software previously in use at PT. Altama Surya Anugerah only had limited features and could back up only limited amount of servers. They needed something better, but quickly realized that solutions on the market were expensive and had complex licensing requirements. Another challenge they faced was with communications and file sharing between employees. The aging instant messaging software they used was not compatible with VLANs, and the company policy does not allow for USB drives, making file sharing between employees inconvenient and sometimes simply impossible for larger files. Without a centralized data storage system in place, each team had their own files scattered across multiple platforms and devices.
The Solution
After testing out Synology's solution, Agus Pujiyo, IT Supervisor at PT. Altama Surya Anugerah, confidently decided to deploy a Synology RS3617xs+ at their headquarters to serve as a centralized data storage solution. They would also simultaneously deploy Active Backup for Business for endpoint data protection and Synology Chat for messaging, solving all of their problems with one unified solution.
Saving more than 60% on storage space
Pujiyo has deployed Active Backup for Business to protect 61 VMware virtual machines and 176 Windows PCs in the office. With global deduplication and Changed Block Tracking (CBT) technology, the company reduced the storage used for backups from 107.6TB down to 42.9TB, a 60.13% reduction. On top of that, ABB is completely free of license fees and has saved them hundred millions of IDR in expenses.
Safe and reliable enterprise messaging for 160 employees
One of the company's top concerns is maintaining data security. With Synology Chat, they could deploy a stable and secure enterprise messaging platform with complete data ownership. It helped eliminate their concerns about placing sensitive data on third party platforms as IT administrators had complete control over user permissions and access control.
Easy file sharing with secure, centralized management
After deploying Photo Station and Video Station, managing large amounts of media files was no longer a challenge. They are able to preview high-resolution photos and videos via web browsers or mobile apps. Additionally, sharing files became much easier, and employees could use team folders to manage user access. All files stored on the NAS are protected using Snapshot Replication, enabling near instantaneous point-in-time restoration to protect against ransomware attacks.
Deploying and customizing the deployment was easy. IT administrators joined the Synology NAS into their existing Windows AD in just a matter of minutes. Overall, Pujiyo found that Synology's NAS offers a remarkable, all-in-one solution for businesses.
