Moodle is een Course Management System (CMS), ook bekend als Learning Management System (LMS) of Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). Het is een gratis webapplicatie die ontworpen is om online opleidingssites te maken en ondersteunen. Lesgevers kunnen de activiteitenmodules (zoals forums, databases en wiki’) gebruiken om samenwerkende groepen bij opleidingen te maken of ze kunnen Moodle gebruiken om inhoud aan studenten te leveren (zoals standaard SCORM-pakketten).
