What client device or browser should I choose for Surveillance Station?
Purpose
This article lists the main features, limitations, and video codec support of each available Surveillance Station operating solution. You can choose from the options below according to individual needs.
Resolution
- Web browsers:
The web-based interface uses a HTML51 video player to stream videos. It does not require plugins to run, and supports advanced monitoring functions such as sequential layout, multi-stream, and image enhancement. We recommend using Google Chrome for the best user experience.2 (Technical specifications) - Synology Surveillance Station Client:
The desktop utility delivers smooth video streaming free from browser limitations, and can boost the performance of running multiple applications. The additional GPU acceleration function reduces the CPU loading, optimizes video display, and increases the number of available decoding channels. (Download here) - DVA1622:

Notes:
- The maximum resolution depends on the supportability of Surveillance Station.
- If video playback is unsmooth, go to Google Chrome Settings > Advanced > System, disable Use hardware acceleration when available, and restart Google Chrome.
- Surveillance Station 9.0 or above is required.
- VS600HD must be updated to firmware 1.1.0 or above to support a joystick.
- The PC must support WebGL on Google Chrome and be updated to Surveillance Station 9.2.1 or above.
- Surveillance Station 9.2.1 or above is required.
- Depending on the capability of the PC or mobile device. For details, refer to this article.
- The PC must support hardware acceleration in Google Chrome and be updated to Surveillance Station 9.1.2 or above. To enable this feature, go to Surveillance Station > Personal Settings > Personal > Advanced, and select Display H.265 video when using hardware acceleration in Google Chrome.
- Deep Video Analytics does not support MxPEG codec.
- The maximum supported frame rate is 1 FPS for the MxPEG codec on VS600HD.
