Synology® Releases C2 Identity, a Streamlined Identity Service for Cloud and On-prem Environments

Bellevue, Wash—October 26, 2021—Synology Inc. today announced the release of C2 Identity, an online identity as a service (IDaaS) solution designed to help businesses securely manage user access to both on-premises and cloud applications with a single identity.

"Protecting access to company resources has always been a challenge," said Demi Chen, Product Manager for Synology C2. "With remote work being the norm and an increase in the number of cloud services used, it has now gotten that much more difficult. C2 Identity lets IT teams streamline and centralize device and user access management to bolster their organization's security."

Manage access to on-premises and cloud environments

From a single online admin console, C2 Identity allows administrators to grant and revoke access to Windows, macOS, and cloud applications for users and groups. Trusted employees can use a self-service portal to easily manage their credentials, including passwords, secondary email addresses, phone numbers, and addresses.

Admins can provision Microsoft 365 and Google accounts from C2 Identity, while employees can use single sign-on (SSO) to conveniently and securely sign in to Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace. Mass deployment of the C2 Identity desktop agent for administrators and employees is easy with Windows AD or Jamf.

Low-latency authentication through hybrid architecture

C2 Identity is built to provide low-latency authentication services using a hybrid architecture, businesses can leverage fast offline authentication by simultaneously running an on-premises server on Synology NAS or in a Docker container on any server.

Setting up or moving to C2 Identity can be quickly achieved by migrating users from LDAP servers, Windows AD servers, Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, or by importing a CSV file.

Designed with privacy and security at the core

Security is at the core of all Synology C2 services, and C2 Identity is no exception.

All user credentials are protected through the Secure Remote Password (SRP) protocol. C2 Identity communicates with clients using SRP, which generates a secure encryption key and provides authentication without sending password-equivalent data over the internet.

IT teams can also use C2 Identity to enforce complex passwords or enable multi-factor authentication using time-based one-time passwords (TOTP).

Availability

C2 Identity is offered in two subscription plans: Free and Business.

Both plans offer opportunities to manage up to 250 users, while the Business plan allows subscribers to join more devices and deploy more LDAP nodes. If you are interested in the features of C2 Identity Business, please contact us for more information.
