Synology® launches HD6500 and RS422+, its largest and smallest rackmount solutions

Taipei, Taiwan—April 27, 2022—Synology today introduced the Synology HD6500 and Synology RackStation RS422+ NAS/SAN systems, built to meet businesses' super-sized and edge storage needs, respectively. Capable of multi-petabyte storage, the HD6500 is the ideal platform to store massive amounts of data, while the RS422+ provides essential storage and services for branch offices or smaller offices in a small form factor. Both devices join Synology's expanding lineup of powerful, but simple-to-use data management solutions powered by Synology DiskStation Manager (DSM).

HD6500 - All the space you need

The 4U, 60-bay HD6500 is designed to streamline large-scale storage with support for up to 960 TB per chassis and can be easily paired with up to 4 additional 60-bay RX6022sas expansion units for over 4 PB of storage in a 20U footprint. Over 6,688 MB/s in sequential read and 6,662 MB/s sequential write performance1 make it an extremely capable solution for any project involving massive quantities of warm data.

"The HD6500 really pushes the boundaries of scalable storage," said Jason Fan, Product Manager at Synology. "The plug-and-play nature of it makes it easy to integrate into any existing IT environment with little additional training needed. Running our latest operating system, DSM 7.1, out of the box, the HD6500 features the same comprehensive data management and backup solutions that our customers have come to rely on, at a much larger scale."

Designed for use with Synology HAS5300 SAS HDDs2, the HD6500's storage controllers, firmware, and operating system have been optimized and thoroughly validated for long-term performance, reliability, and data integrity. Additionally, redundant power supplies, SAS multipathing support, out-of-band (OOB) management, and dual independent system drives ensure data and service availability.

With two 10GbE RJ-45 ports, three Gigabit Ethernet ports (of which one OOB management port), and the option to add 10GbE SFP+/RJ-45, 25GbE SFP28, or Fibre Channel options, the HD6500 is equipped to scale along with business demands.

RS422+ - Compact and capable

Data is increasingly generated, processed, and used in different locations. The compact 1U, 4-bay RS422+ enables smaller teams to tap into the powerful data management functionalities provided by DSM in a compact, edge-optimized solution. At just 33 cm deep, the RS422+ fits into shallow rackmount enclosures and two-post racks. Users with high throughput requirements can easily add 10GbE RJ-45 connectivity with the E10G22-T1-Mini Network Upgrade Module.

"RS422+ is our most entry-level rackmount server, but features the same comprehensive feature set and easy-to-deploy capabilities as all larger units," said Michael Wang, Product Manager. "It does everything — data backup through our Active Backup Suite, and file access and synchronization through Synology Drive and Hybrid Share. It can also be transformed into a powerful network video recorder with Synology Surveillance Station."

Next-gen data management

The HD6500 and RS422+ both launch with DSM 7.1, featuring enhanced business file server, remote management, and backup capabilities.

Multiplatform file access, synchronization, and collaboration are enabled through Synology Drive and support for Hybrid Share. At the same time, aggregated file portals over the SMB protocol can be created to virtually link together multiple Synology systems for convenience.

Synology's cloud-powered Active Insight service also received a recent update to add convenient system and software update capabilities to an already expansive feature set of performance, security, and backup monitoring.

Together with DSM 7.1, Active Backup for Business (ABB) adds support for bare-metal backups and restoration of entire Synology NAS/SAN systems, including DSM settings, applications, and user preferences to another NAS.
