Synology launches DP5200, a compact 1U ActiveProtect data protection appliance for growing organizations and remote offices

Malaysia — July 8, 2026 — Synology today announced the DP5200, a compact 1U ActiveProtect appliance that brings broad platform support, large-scale workload management, and AI-hardened protection to growing organizations and remote offices.

"Businesses today struggle to find data protection that scales to their exact needs without compounding cost and complexity," said Jia-Yu Liu, Executive Vice President of the Data Protection Group at Synology. "We designed the DP5200 to give organizations and MSPs a space-efficient, unified solution that deploys effortlessly across branch offices, remote sites, and data centers while delivering maximum value."

As part of the ActiveProtect lineup, the DP5200 delivers up to 36 TB of usable capacity in a compact 1U form factor and is equipped with all ActiveProtect Manager (APM) enterprise backup capabilities, including:

Broad platform support

The DP5200 protects a diverse range of environments. This includes virtualization platforms (VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V), physical infrastructure (Windows and Linux servers, Windows PCs, and macOS), SaaS applications (Microsoft 365), databases (Oracle and Microsoft SQL), and file servers (support for SMB, NetApp, and Nutanix systems). More workloads will be supported in the upcoming APM 2.0 upgrade*, including Azure VM, Amazon EC2, Nutanix AHV, Proxmox VE, and Google Workspace.

Unified management at scale

The DP5200 can operate as a standalone backup server to protect all workloads within a local site, or function as a central management server that consolidates up to 120,000 workloads and monitors 1,000 servers across multiple locations through a single pane of glass.

Active, AI-hardened defense

The DP5200 strengthens security by combining MFA-backed access control with an AI-hardened architecture. It enforces the 3-2-1-1-0 protection standard through immutable WORM storage, logical air-gaps, and version-based tiering. With the upcoming APM 2.0, it will shift from passive recovery to active defense, using AI/ML to detect anomalies during backup and scanning for malware to ensure all future restorations remain malware-free.

The DP5200 is available globally via Synology's distributor and partner network. For more information, visit https://sy.to/ap_dp5200_pr.

* APM 2.0 is schedule to be available in Q3 2026. For detailed information, please refer to the Synology website.
