Synology releases DiskStation Manager 7.4, bringing AI-guided management, smarter collaboration, and higher storage efficiency

Taipei, Taiwan — June 16, 2026 — Synology today announced the release of DiskStation Manager (DSM) 7.4, delivering DSM Agent, Synology ChatPlus and Meet, and Synology HDD-based post-processing deduplication and compression.

AI-guided system management, simplified

DSM 7.4 introduces DSM Agent, a built-in AI advisor that provides contextual recommendations and guidance directly within the operating system interface, lowering the barrier to advanced configuration and proactive system management.

A future DSM Agent 2.0 update will expand its capabilities to agentic workflows, letting users monitor system health, validate backups, edit documents, and automate complex tasks across the Synology ecosystem, all through natural language.

Smarter collaboration with full data privacy

DSM 7.4 also unveils open betas of Synology ChatPlus and Meet, enterprise-grade communication tools with granular permission controls, fully on-premises deployment, and AI-powered live translation, enabling multinational teams to collaborate seamlessly while maintaining complete control over data privacy.

Synology Drive also adds AI Search for systems with GPU support, letting users find files through natural language descriptions. On-device embedding models extend search beyond text to recognize content within images and documents.

Optimized storage efficiency

The new Storage Efficiency feature for HDD-based volumes¹ brings post-processing deduplication and compression to significantly reduce storage footprint. Flexible scheduling and management options ensure data reduction runs without impacting system performance.
