The Spinifex Group

As a motion graphics content company operating a mixed-OS studio environment, Spinifex Group needed a fast, reliable file server to replace an aging SAN system and unreliable high-end NAS unit from another major vendor. They deployed the RS3614xs+ prior to the busiest part of the year during which they needed to generate a multitude of high resolution motion graphics package to tight deadlines. Spinifex had 12 workstations working in After Effects and 3DS Max in a mixed PC and Mac etwork directly accessing primary assets from the Synology server. Simultaneously, they had around 72 managed render nodes accessing the same assets and generating very large image sequences back to the RS3614xs+. The unit proved to be utterly reliable, easy to deploy and faster than either of our previous storage systems.

The fact that the Synology unit supports both SMB and AFP protocols has been a massive benefit to Spinifex Group's mixed environment, allowing maximum network performance from both Windows and Mac platforms. "The RS3614xs+ has exceeded our expectations in terms of performance under heavy load, ease of use and reliability to such an extent that we have recently added an additional unit, RS3617xs+, to our network as another file server and discommissioned our other file storage solutions." commented Martyn Pot, IT manager of Spinifex Group.
