How do I transfer surveillance device licenses to another Synology server?
How do I transfer surveillance device licenses to another Synology server?
Purpose
This article outlines the process of transferring licenses between Synology servers (i.e., NAS or NVR), either by deleting and adding them or through migration.1
In the following paragraphs, the server from which the licenses are revoked is referred to as the source server, while the server that receives the licenses is referred to as the target server.
Notes:
- The default licenses cannot be deleted or migrated. For the exact number, refer to the datasheet of your Synology server.
Resolution
Before you start, check the solution below that applies to your situation:
- If you can access the source server, refer to the Delete and add licenses section.
- If you cannot access the source server (e.g., due to malfunction or password loss) but it is signed in to a valid Synology Account, refer to the Migrate licenses section.
Delete and add licenses
A license can only be added to one server at a time. To transfer it, you must delete it from the current server before adding it to another.
- Make sure both Synology servers have Internet access.2
- Sign in to the source server, go to Surveillance Station > License.
- Click Show License Key to copy your license keys so you can paste them to the target server later. Ensure you save them properly, as they are not recorded in the history.
- Select the licenses to transfer, and then click Delete.
- On the target server, go to Surveillance Station > License and click Add.
- Confirm that you agree to the software license agreement.
- If you are adding licenses from the CMS host server, select a server to allocate the licenses to.
- Enter or paste the license keys that you copied from the source server. You can paste up to 100 license keys at once.
- In case you need to transfer licenses to another server again but cannot access the current server anymore, we recommend signing in to a valid Synology Account from DSM Control Panel.
Migrate licenses
Signing in to a valid Synology Account on a Synology server allows you to migrate licenses even if the server malfunctions.
Simply follow the Add License Wizard on the target server. Surveillance Station will recognize that the licenses have been activated, and ask you to authenticate the Synology Account of the source server to prove your identity. You can then confirm and complete the migration.
- Make sure the target server has Internet access.
- In the Migrate window, confirm the information and click Authenticate.
- Enter the required information of your Synology Account, and click Submit.
- Once the account is verified, select the checkbox and click Migrate.
- A summary license status will appear. Click Finish.
