Some Synology NAS products come with expandable memory design for system performance enhancement. However, as regulated by the original CPU manufacturer, some requirements are needed when expanding system memory capacity. Please refer to the following tables for notices on system memory upgrade.
CPU platform: Avoton
Applied models
|
RS1219+, RS818RP+, RS818+, DS1817+ (2 GB), DS1517+ (2 GB)
|
---|---|
Requirements
|
These models come with one 2 GB memory module installed by default. To form a dual-channel memory architecture, it is required to remove the original module and install two memory modules of the same capacity for normal system operation.

Requirements
|
These models come with one or more 4 GB non-ECC memory modules installed by default. To install optional ECC memory modules, it is required to remove the original non-ECC memory modules. The ECC feature will be unavailable if both non-ECC and ECC modules are installed at the same time. This combination is not tested by Synology and may result in unexpected system instability.

Notes:
- Please download the Hardware Installation Guide for your Synology NAS for complete instructions on memory module installation and removal.
- Please refer to Synology Products Compatibility List to find the correct memory module for your Synology NAS.
- Please always select authentic Synology memory modules from local distributors for optimal compatibility and reliability. Installation of non-Synology memory modules can lead to system instability or boot failures. Synology will not provide complete product warranty or technical support if non-Synology memory modules are used for memory expansion.
- Certain models may not be available in your location. Please contact your local distributors for more information.
