How do I operate fisheye dewarping in Surveillance Station?

Purpose

Surveillance Station supports playing back fisheye camera footage in rectilinear or panoramic views. This article explains the essential setups.

Resolution

Before you start

  • Make sure the version of your Surveillance Station is 9.2.1 or above. Synology Surveillance Station Client is not restricted by the version requirement.
  • Make sure your camera is in the IP camera Support List.

Configure camera settings

  1. Launch IP Camera.
  2. Select the fisheye camera and go to Edit > Device > Information.
  3. Select a Mount Type.1
  4. Select a Video channel and save the settings.
    • Original View: Use the fisheye dewarping feature powered by Surveillance Station.2,3 Refer to the Configure fisheye dewarping settings section to complete the setup.
    • Other options: Choose from the camera's built-in features.4 You can add multiple channels of the same camera without using extra device licenses.
  5. Some cameras support configuring the Field of view. You can go to the Video tab and select from the available options.4

Configure fisheye dewarping settings

  1. In IP camera, select the fisheye camera using Original View.
  2. Click Fisheye Dewarping from the Applications panel at the bottom of the page.
  3. Click 2.png. Enter a Name and select a dewarping Type.
    • Region: Apply a rectilinear and regional viewing area.
    • Panorama: Apply a panoramic viewing area.
    • Double Panorama: Apply two panorama regions.5
    • Triple View: Apply two regions and a panorama.5
    • Quad View: Apply four regions.
  4. Click Open Original View and use the on-screen operations to adjust the view angle.
  5. Save the settings. You can now view dewarped footage in Surveillance Station layouts and players.6

Notes:

  1. Different mount types require different dewarping algorithms. Select the actual mount type of your camera to ensure proper functionality.
  2. The Original View option may require extra CPU usage on your computer.
  3. The Original View option displays dewarped footage in Surveillance Station but uses the raw footage to save recordings.
  4. Available options may vary by camera model.
  5. Wall mount cameras do not support Double Panorama and Triple View.
  6. Some fisheye dewarping functions may be limited by the client you use. Refer to this article to learn more.
