Deploy your mesh Wi-Fi system
This section shows how to add Wi-Fi points to deploy a mesh Wi-Fi system. You can also refer to this article for detailed instructions.
- Go to Wi-Fi Connect > Wi-Fi Point on your primary Wi-Fi point.
- Click Add. The wizard will ask you if you want to connect all Wi-Fi points wireless or some of your Wi-Fi points via Ethernet cables.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to place your additional Wi-Fi points, power them on, and wait until their LED indicators start blinking.
- The wizard will start scanning available Wi-Fi points. When the scan is complete, name the Wi-Fi points and click Next. The Wi-Fi points will be added to your mesh Wi-Fi system in a few minutes.
Note:
- You can deploy a mesh Wi-Fi system through wired uplinks, wireless uplinks, or a combination of these two types. Please ensure the following for your Wi-Fi points:
- Wi-Fi points deployed via a wireless uplink: Keep additional Wi-Fi points at least one meter away from each other, but do not make the distance too far.
- Wi-Fi points deployed via a wired uplink: Directly connect each additional Wi-Fi point to the primary one via an Ethernet cable (i.e., a star network). Alternatively, you can connect your primary and additional Wi-Fi points in serial through a switch.
- If the additional Wi-Fi points you wish to add are more than the number of Ethernet ports on your primary Wi-Fi point, we suggest having a switch connected to the primary point and the additional ones.
- Adding additional Wi-Fi points using WPS is not supported.
- When the primary Wi-Fi point is an MR2200ac with the IPTV option enabled, the Ethernet uplink will be disabled accordingly. Therefore, the setup wizard of mesh Wi-Fi system will ask you to remove your Ethernet cable if you wish to connect a Wi-Fi point to the primary one.
- When the primary Wi-Fi point is reset to default, the current mesh Wi-Fi system will be terminated. You will need to add Wi-Fi points again to deploy a new mesh Wi-Fi system. Also, the previously added Wi-Fi points must be reset to default to be able to join the new mesh Wi-Fi system.
Manage Wi-Fi points
This section explains how to monitor the status of your mesh Wi-Fi system with the network map. You can find all your devices and their connection types. Solid lines refer to Ethernet connections while dotted lines refer to wireless connections.
To monitor Wi-Fi system status
- Go to Wi-Fi Connect > Wi-Fi Point.
- If you have set up a mesh Wi-Fi system, you can see a list of Wi-Fi points and a network map on this page. You can find the following information about each Wi-Fi point:
- Uplink: This column shows how each Wi-Fi point is connected to its paired device in the direction towards the Internet.
- Wi-Fi Device: This column shows the number of wirelessly connected client devices of each Wi-Fi point.
- Wi-Fi Transmission Rate: This column shows the transfer rate of data from a Wi-Fi point.
- Wi-Fi Receiving Rate: This column shows the transfer rate of data towards a Wi-Fi point.
- Select the device you wish to monitor and click Details.
- In the pop-up window, you can find the following tabs:
- General: Edit the Name of the Wi-Fi point and view the general information.
- Network: Monitor the network status of each wireless band of the Wi-Fi point.
- Wi-Fi Clients: View the client devices that are wirelessly connected to the Wi-Fi point.
To control an individual Wi-Fi point
- Go to Wi-Fi Connect > Wi-Fi Point.
- Select the device you wish to monitor, and click Manage to do any of the following:
- Turn off LED: Turn off the LED indicator of the selected Wi-Fi point device.
- Blink to Find: The LED indicator of the selected Wi-Fi point will start blinking, assisting you to find its location.
- Restart now: The selected Wi-Fi point will restart immediately.
- Delete & Reset: The selected Wi-Fi point will be removed from the mesh Wi-Fi system, and reset to factory defaults.
Note: If you wish to add a previously deployed Wi-Fi point back to your Wi-Fi system after it has been removed and reset, please press the RESET button on your device to reset it again.
To change the uplink type of an individual Wi-Fi point
- Go to Wi-Fi Connect > Wi-Fi Point.
- Check the Wi-Fi point you want to select is in Status: Healthy. You can hover the mouse cursor over the Wi-Fi point's icon to see its status.
- Select a Wi-Fi point.
- Click Manage > Select Uplink Type.
- Select an uplink type for the Wi-Fi point:
- Auto (Recommended): The system automatically detects and selects the best uplink type.
- Manual: The system prioritizes the Ethernet connection; however, you can still manually appoint a wireless uplink. If the wired network gets disconnected, the Wi-Fi point's uplink will be automatically switched to the wireless type.
- Ethernet only: The system is set up to use Ethernet as the only uplink type. The Internet will be available as long as the wired network stays connected.
- Click OK and wait for the synchronization to complete.
Note:
- If a Wi-Fi point gets disconnected while Manual is selected as its uplink type, you can use an Ethernet cable to connect the Wi-Fi point and allow SRM to fix the connection.
