Hyper Backup Vault
Hyper Backup Vault transforms your Synology NAS into a backup destination for other remote Synology NAS.
Overview
This section displays the total usage of backup storage from other remote Synology NAS, and the status of Running Task(s).
- Target Usage: In this section, you can hover over the pie chart or click View more to know more details of the used size and usage percentage of each task.
- Running Task(s): In this section, all tasks backing up to the Synology NAS and its status will be displayed, such as the amount of time that has passed since the current backup job started running.
All Tasks
After receiving backup data from other remote Synology NAS servers, your Synology NAS will create backup tasks within its shared folders to store the backup data.
On the task list, you can find relevant details below:
- Directory path: Show where the backup target is on your Synology NAS. To directly go to the backup target, click the directory path.
- Last backup time: Show when the latest backup task is done.
- Duration: Show how much time is used to complete the backup task.
To view backup statistics:
Hover over a task and click on Backup Statistics to view the analysis of the task in the following three tabs:
- Destination Usage: The line graph of the storage usage of the destination data is displayed in this tab. Go to Hyper Backup > Backup Statistics > Destination Usage to set up threshold and alert for excessive storage usage and excessive data growth between backup versions.
- Source Disk Usage: The line graph of the storage usage of the source data is displayed in this tab. Please note that the source disk usage includes metadata.
- Source Monitor: The line graph of added, modified, and deleted files is displayed in this tab. Go to Hyper Backup > Backup Statistics > Source Monitor to set up the thresholds and alerts for excessive file addition, modification, or deletion between backup versions.
You can view the statistics by month or year by selecting Month or Year from the Time Range drop-down list.
To view task settings:
Hover over a task and click on Task Settings to view the detailed information of the task configurations.
To view backup versions:
- Hover over a task and click Version List to show all available backup versions of the backup task in a list.
- Hover over any version on the list and the icon of Backup Version Information and Backup Explorer will appear. Click on either icon to view the detailed information and contained files in this version.
- Backup Version Information:
- View the Summary for general details for the following information.
- Source size: The size of the source data. Hover over the info icon to view the source size details in a pie chart which displays the proportion of shared folder size, application size, and metadata file size.
- Target increase size: The increased size in your target destination comparing to the former version. Hover over the info icon to view the deduplication size and compression ratio.
- New / Modified / Deleted shared folder data: The calculation of new, modified, and deleted shared folder data is displayed by count / size ratio. The first number is the count of the files and the number in the bracket is the size.
- Modified application data: The size of modified application data. Please note that the application backup data and system configuration are both included.
- Click on Download file change detail to download and view a more detailed version of file changes. You can only download details when file change detail log is enabled. Go to Hyper Backup > Task Settings > Settings to enable this function.
- View Action History for the information of the start and complete time of this backup task.
- View the Summary for general details for the following information.
- Backup Explorer:
- Click on the timeline to select a desired backup version to view its details. You can also copy or download the contained files.
- To find exact files within the backup version, click the magnifying glass icon on the top right corner and specify the search criteria.
- Backup Version Information:
To view backup logs:
- Hover over the tasks and click Log to view the backup log of a specific backup task.
- To find exact log entries, click the magnifying glass icon on the top right corner and specify your search criteria.
- To export the backup log, click Export to export the log as an HTML file or a CSV file.
Settings
In this page, you can configure the number of concurrent backup tasks.
Note:
- Backup tasks will not be added to the task queue when your Synology NAS memory is heavily used.
