While keeping excessive snapshots can impact storage efficiency, deleting them in bulk to reclaim space may also affect performance. It's recommended to manage snapshots by deleting them on a regular basis
Maximum number of replication tasks
128 tasks per system (shared folders and LUNs combined)
Customizable retention rules for snapshot management
Smart Retention policy
Number of latest snapshots to keep
Keep all snapshots for
Customizable protection periods for immutable snapshots. During the protection period, snapshots and their corresponding shared folders or LUNs are protected and cannot be deleted
Customizable number of concurrent tasks for better system resource allocation
Customizable IP addresses and ports for data transfer in replication tasks, as well as priority network interfaces
Supports importing the initial replication data to the destination server with an external storage device to reduce the replication time
Replication transmission encryption
Verification tests on site recovery
Additional features for shared folders
Snapshot size calculation for space management
Online preview of snapshot content and single-file downloads from snapshots
Restoration of files and folders using Windows Previous Versions
Limitations
Taking or replicating snapshots is not supported for shared folders with less than 100 MB of available volume space
Taking or replicating snapshots is not supported for LUNs with less than 1 GB of available volume space
NFS permission cannot be recorded in snapshots
Data in the recycle bin is recorded in snapshots
Encrypted shared folders do not support online preview of snapshot content
Shared folders included in a Synology Tiering task do not support replication tasks
When shared folders or LUNs have replication tasks in place, the latest snapshots sent to destination servers cannot be deleted
Each one-to-many/extended replication can support up to three different destination sites
The "homes" shared folder does not support the following operations: restore to this snapshot, switchover, failover, forced failover, test failover, and re-protect
WriteOnce shared folders do not support restoring from this snapshot
WriteOnce shared folders in Compliance mode do not support switchover and re-protect
The number of concurrent tasks is only configurable on models with more than 2 CPU threads (Learn more about each model's CPU threads)
