Productivity & Virtualization
DiskStation Manager (DSM) is all about saving you time and money. To achieve this goal and help you grow, Synology provides top-notch and free productivity apps along with convenient virtualization technologies. The optimization of your time, resources, and hardware has never been so accessible.
Docker
Lightweight virtualization for fast deployment
With the complexification of the server architecture, it's getting increasingly difficult to ship an application from test environment to production. To alleviate the trouble for developers and administrators worldwide, Docker provides a convenient and isolated container object for fast deployment.
Powerful and lean software on demand
Installing and using new server applications has never been so convenient. Do you need a new clean environment for your web app, easily transferable to the production server? Start, stop, and monitor your installed containers from the unified dashboard and evaluate your resource needs. Docker creates a lean container embedding just the necessary libraries, unlike virtual machines which need an entire guest OS to run.
Hundreds of apps readily available to extend DSM
The Docker registry contains all you need to start your application server, and even more. Database management, blogging platforms, CRM software, programming languages — everything is readily available for download and deployment. Installation has never been easier, since all dependencies are embedded within the container and each of them is isolated from the other running apps
SSO Server
Enter your password once and for all
Project management systems, enterprise resource planning — a typical working day in any modern company involves a multitude of web services, each requiring an authentication of user credentials. A single sign-on (SSO) server centralizes all such authentication to eliminate the inefficiency of signing into each service one by one. You will be able to log in to Synology web applications with one single DSM account — without doing it over and over again.
Note Station & DS note
Collect, organize, and get things done
Go digital with your notes and you'll start to see possibilities for higher productivity appearing one by one. Note Station helps you capture all necessary information, organize action points according to your schedule, and handle them with class.
Clip the best of the web into your pocket notebook
Read something interesting on the web? Synology Web Clipper (a Chrome extension) lets you clip the page in one click and add tags or comments, all in the same window. And it works on mobile browsers, too. So even when the page is removed afterwards, you still have a copy on Note Station. Keeping all web clippings in one place also enables you to quickly locate the content you want with search keywords.
A simple to-do list, a powerful task management system
At the end of every meeting comes a list of to-dos. Set the priority and due date for each item, or choose to be reminded at a specific date and time — this lets you immediately turn to-do lists into a capable task management system that works on both computers and mobile devices. The "To-do list" page displays all your tasks, sortable by various criteria. Open it in the morning, and you'll know what’s next.
Export and import your notes
Now you can export any of your notebooks, and import them back to Note Station on another Synology NAS. It's much more than facilitating backups and future migration: a notebook of frequently used templates can be given to new employees, so that they can adopt the styles right away. To share a note with non-DSM users, export it as a .zip file — so they can open it just as a regular web page.
Group notebooks into a notebook shelf. Organize better.
Share a note directly with DSM's embedded e-mail client.
Archive outdated notebooks for searching efficiency.
Take notes directly with your fingers or stylus on mobile devices.
Attach files from your Synology NAS or public clouds on DS note.
File Station
For a more integrated and unified personal cloud
File Station can now be used as a smart cloud client to browse and download remote data stored in your public cloud accounts, as if they were stored locally. Data from different storage solutions (FTP server, public cloud, local files, etc) are centralized from within File Station, allowing users to manage their own storage through the familiar interface. In addition, no additional bandwidth is required since the data is retrieved only upon demand.
Advanced features
For professional users and enthusiasts
Synology has always provided powerful features to help get the most of your DiskStation. DSM 5.2 brings several new exciting options for iSCSI LUN backup, memory optimization for SSD cache, and additional modes for Link Aggregation.
iSCSI LUN retention policy
Snapshots are critical for recovery purposes, but they tend to consume a lot of space over time on the primary data volume. With the new retention policy, it's possible to precisely fine-tune the snapshots strategy and smartly prune the old ones to keep only the most relevant snapshots archived.
Smaller memory footprint for SSD cache
SSD caching is a very powerful technology developed by Synology to give a dramatic performance boost without crippling an IT budget. DSM 5.2 brings a lot of under the hood changes, reducing the RAM consumption of SSD caching by up to 90%, allowing more users to enable it.
New modes for Link Aggregation
Link Aggregation is an essential network feature, allowing you to tailor the behavior of your network ports according to your needs and find a balance between reliability and performance. DSM is now compatible with the following-modes: Active-standby, 802.3ad dynamic, Balanced XOR, and Adaptive Load Balancing, allowing you to benefit from link aggregation without server-class switch.
