How do I reset my Synology Router?

Purpose

Synology Router has two reset modes:

  • Soft reset: Reset the administrator's login credentials to default.1
  • Hard reset: Wipe out all system configurations and reinstall SRM.

This article will guide you through how to soft/hard reset your Synology Router.2

Resolution

Soft reset your Synology Router

  1. Use a paper clip to gently press and hold the RESET button for 4 seconds. Your Synology Router will then start a soft reset.
  2. When the soft reset is complete, launch a web browser on a computer that is being connected to your Synology Router via Ethernet.
  3. Enter "router.synology.com" in the address bar.
  4. Click Connect to launch the configuration wizard.
  5. Fill in the information to set up the administrator account. Click Next to continue.
  6. After the configuration wizard is complete, click Start managing now to access your SRM.

During a soft reset, the STATUS LED indicator on Synology Router behaves as follows:

Hard reset your Synology Router

  1. Use a paper clip to gently press and hold the RESET button for 10 seconds. Your Synology Router will then start a hard reset.
  2. When the hard reset is complete, reinstall SRM by following the guidelines in Chapter 1 of Synology Router User's Guide.

During a hard reset, the STATUS LED indicator on Synology Router behaves as follows:

Notes:

  1. If you only wish to change the administrator's password when you can sign in to SRM normally, please go to Options > Account to configure the settings.
  2. Data on Synology Router will remain intact after a soft or hard reset. However, we suggest backing up your data before the reset to avoid any unexpected data loss.
  3. This LED behavior is applicable to SRM 1.3.1 and above versions. If you are using SRM 1.2.5 and earlier versions, please refer to the RT2600ac Product Manual for more information.
