DDNS

For those who prefer to set up port-forwarding and do everything themselves, Synology provides free DDNS service with the support of both IPv4 and IPv6. Furthermore, with the integration of Let's Encrypt, connecting to your Synology NAS by HTTPS protocol with a valid Certificate is better secure and even without paying any extra fee.

  • PPPoE and VPN Client

    Simply enter your credentials from your ISP to get direct access to the Internet; or secure your communications by connecting to private network servers with VPN Client supporting PPTP, OpenVPN, and L2TP over IPSec.

  • IPv4/IPv6 Dual Stack & IPv6 Tunneling

    Besides IPv4 support, DSM services are compatible with IPv6, the next-generation Internet protocol. Further, you can integrate your Synology NAS running IPv6 services into existing IPv4 networks with IPv6 tunneling.

Access and Resource Control

With thorough control mechanisms, DSM ensures all incoming and outgoing data transfers more secure and efficient.

Firewall

DSM is secured with a profile-based IPv4/IPv6 dual stack firewall. It allows setting up multiple profiles according to different deployment scenarios or purposes.
In each profile, firewall rules can be created regarding IP/Port constraints, and users can decide on which interface these rules will take effect.

DoS Protection

DSM also provides protection against Denial-of-service attacks to ensure your private network is secure.

802.1x

Each Synology NAS within the local network can act as an 802.1x supplicant and be controlled by the 802.1x authentication mechanism to prevent potential internal threats.

Traffic Control

DSM features comprehensive traffic control capabilities to allow simple but flexible, bandwidth usage limits for each application and service.

Link Aggregation

Link Aggregation allows you to tailor the behavior of your network ports in terms of network performance and reliability, unlocking potentially higher transfer speeds and providing fault tolerance for environments with heavy traffic in small/medium offices, or for advanced users with high data rate streaming requests.

  1. Active/Standby provides failover of network interface, which means, once the operating interface encounters failure, its traffic will be re-directed to the other interface.
  2. 802.3ad Dynamic Link Aggregation requires a switch to support IEEE 802.3ad standard.
  3. Balanced XOR requires a switch to support static bonding.

DHCP Server can also include extra specification-defined or vendor information for different applications during IP assignment process. Learn more DSM allows a DHCP server to implement the setup of PXE (Pre-Boot Execution Environment), which is a network environment that allows client devices to boot up using a network interface instead of a data storage device (e.g. hard disks). When PXE is implemented, a boot loader can be stored on your Synology NAS or a remote TFTP server, and client devices can boot up over the network using the boot loader.
