I am told invalid username and password when connecting to VPN Plus. What should I do?

Purpose/Details

This article describes what to do if you get a login message telling you that your username and password are invalid when connecting a client to VPN Plus Server.

Environment

Applicable to VPN Plus Server on Synology Router.

Note:

  1. For information about VPN server on Synology NAS, please refer to this article.

Resolutions

Please proceed with the following troubleshooting methods in sequential order:

  • Method 1: Sign in to your SRM via the same set of username and password. If the login fails, it means you might have the wrong username or password. You can check usernames or change passwords at SRM Control PanelUser.
  • Method 2: Check the access privileges of this user account at VPN Plus Server > Permission > Services. Make sure that you have granted permission for the user’s access to the appropriate VPN service you are applying.
  • Method 3: Make sure that your device forwards packets to your Synology Router rather than to other devices. If there are other devices able to host VPN servers located behind your Synology Router, please configure their settings as described below:
    • Disable the VPN services of these devices.
    • Disable the UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) services on your Synology Router, and ensure that there are no manually configured port forwarding rules.
