Lotte World builds a scalable and secure high-speed 4K video storage server with Synology

The Lotte World Design Media Team initially used the Synology DS918+ as their primary file server. However, as their storage needs increased, they incorporated several external hard drives into their existing storage setup. Although this solution temporarily alleviated their storage issues, it also resulted in data being scattered across the team, making files difficult to locate. Additionally, transferring large 4K video files could take several days. This inefficiency in moving files from the external hard drives to computers for editing significantly hindered the team’s productivity.

Lotte World selected Synology again for its user-friendly interface to tackle the issues of inadequate storage space and ineffective file management. By modernizing their network infrastructure and storage devices, they have improved both convenience and work efficiency. Their setup now includes a Synology RS3621xs+ with eight Synology HAT5310 hard drives. The RS3621xs+ features twelve hard drive slots, which can expand to a maximum of 36 with an RS1217(RP) expansion unit. This scalability provides ample capacity to meet the anticipated data growth of the Lotte World Design Media Team.

With the RS3621xs+ working as the efficient and reliable file server, Lotte World established an efficient video product process that streamlined video editing and transmission. The editing crew can co-edit videos utilizing SMB on the NAS via a 10GbE high-speed internal network by storing 4K video files in a shared area. This cuts down on file transfer times from tens of hours to no more than two hours. The effectiveness of the complete video production process has increased dramatically as a result.

Additionally, Synology file servers have boosted cross-departmental collaboration at Lotte World. With the link-sharing function of the Synology NAS, users with NAS accounts in the same department and guest users from other departments can easily access and view the design media team’s video outputs after obtaining permission. This feature has effectively enhanced work cooperation between departments.

In addition to increasing work productivity through highly scalable deployment, Lotte World also placed a strong emphasis on file permission management. File access permissions were reorganized with the new Synology file server: video editors received read and write access to share files, while general users were restricted to view-only permissions. Data security management has been greatly strengthened by this focused strategy.

Additionally, Synology’s built-in Security Advisor enhances data security by conducting automated malware scans and preventing abnormal logins through its alert system. This comprehensive approach has greatly increased the security and efficiency of Lotte World's file management system.
