Enable SSD TRIM
You can enable SSD TRIM to improve the read and write performance of storage pools composed entirely of solid-state drives (SSDs). This can help increase the efficiency of accessing data on the SSDs and extend the lifetime of the SSDs.
To enable SSD TRIM for a storage pool:
- Launch Storage Manager.
- Go to the Storage page and select the storage pool consisting entirely of SSDs.
- Click the upper-right icon
and select Settings.
- Go to the SSD TRIM section and select the Enable SSD TRIM checkbox.
- Click the Set Schedule button to schedule the time for performing SSD TRIM.
- Click OK.
- Once the schedule has been set, you can view the task target, status, and schedule at Overview > Task Schedule.
Note:
- To find out if your Synology NAS model supports SSD TRIM, check its Product Specifications. This document is available in the Download Center.
- Some SSD models do not support SSD TRIM for storage pools configured in RAID 5 and RAID 6. To find out if this applies to your SSD models, look them up on the Synology Products Compatibility List and check the Notes section for unsupported features.
- SSD TRIM is not supported in the following cases:
- Your storage pool is configured in RAID 0.
- Your storage pool contains only block-level LUNs.
- System performance will be affected when performing SSD TRIM. The time required for performing SSD TRIM varies depending on the volume size, SSD model, SSD usage condition, and the amount of SSD garbage collection.
