RS3621xs+ and Synology DSM are ideal for storing and sharing 4K large-capacity videos, and the 10GbE expansion option greatly improves data transfer speed and work efficiency.
Cho Chang-hee, Design Media Team, Hotel Lotte Co., Ltd. Lotte World
The Challenge
The Lotte World Design Media Team previously used the Synology DS918+ as their main file server. However, as storage needs grew, they added several external hard drives. While this temporarily addressed the storage space issue, it often led to data being scattered across the team, making files difficult to locate. Additionally, transferring large 4K video files often took several days. The process of moving necessary files from the external hard drive to the computer for editing consumed a significant amount of time, adversely affecting the team's productivity.
The Solution
To address the issues of insufficient storage capacity and inefficient file management, Lotte World again chose Synology for its user-friendly interface. They built a data protection structure that enhances work efficiency and convenience by upgrading both storage devices and network deployment simultaneously. With the introduction of the Synology RS3621xs+, which supports 8 Synology HAT5310 hard drives and 12 hard drive slots, Lotte World can easily meet its growing storage needs. These slots can be expanded to up to 36 with an RX1217(RP) expansion unit if necessary. This scalability is well-suited to the data growth trends of the Lotte World Design Media Team.
The Benefits
After introducing the Synology RS3621xs+, Lotte World established an efficient video production file server to streamline the video editing and transmission process. By storing 4K video files in a shared space, the editing team can co-edit videos using SMB on the NAS over a 10GbE high-speed internal network, reducing file transfer times from tens of hours to just 1 to 2 hours. This has significantly improved the efficiency of the entire video production process.
Additionally, with Synology file servers, Lotte World enhanced cross-departmental collaboration. Using the link sharing function of Synology NAS, users with NAS accounts in the same department and visiting users from other departments can easily access and view the design media team's video outputs after receiving permission. This feature has increased the efficiency of work cooperation between departments.
In addition to increasing work efficiency through a highly scalable deployment, Lotte World placed great emphasis on file permission management. After introducing the new Synology file server, they redistributed file access rights for each employee. Video editors were granted read and write permissions to share video files, while general users were limited to viewing files only. This simple setup allowed for effective security management.
Furthermore, Synology's built-in Security Advisor enhances data security by enabling automated malware scans and preventing abnormal logins through its alert system. This comprehensive approach has significantly increased the security and efficiency of Lotte World's file management system.
Lotte World is a leading company in the field of themed entertainment, both online and offline. It encompasses a wide range of attractions from tourism and leisure industries such as theme parks, aquariums, and observatories to online content.
'Lotte World Adventure,' Korea's first theme park that opened in 1989, is beloved as the country's representative theme park for all ages. Building on this experience, 'Lotte Water Park' and 'Lotte World Aquarium' were opened in 2014, with an additional 'Lotte World Aquarium' opened in 2017. In 2018, the Lotte World Tower observatory, ‘Seoul Sky,’ was successfully opened and has been operating smoothly ever since.
