My wireless device is connecting to a Wi-Fi point farther away. What can I do?

Symptoms

Your wireless device is connecting to a Wi-Fi point farther away when it is closer to another Wi-Fi point.

Environment

You are using Synology Router's mesh Wi-Fi system.

Resolution

For SRM 1.3 and above:

  1. Go to SRM > Wi-Fi Connect > Wi-Fi Settings > Wi-Fi Network > select your Wi-Fi network > More > Edit, and expand Advanced Options. Clear the checkbox for 802.11r.1
  2. If the problem persists, go to Wi-Fi Connect > Wi-Fi Settings > Wi-Fi Network > select your Wi-Fi network > More > Edit, and expand Advanced Options. Select the checkbox for Disable Smart Connect for devices not supporting 802.11v.2

For SRM 1.2:

  1. Go to SRM > Wi-Fi Connect > Wireless > Wi-Fi, expand Advanced Options, and clear the checkbox for 802.11r.1
  2. If the problem persists, go to Wi-Fi Connect > Wireless > Wi-Fi, and expand Advanced Options. Select the checkbox for Disable Smart Connect for devices not supporting 802.11v.2

Notes:

  1. If this function is enabled, devices that do not support 802.11r cannot connect to the Wi-Fi point.
  2. This option is only available when Smart Connect is enabled and excludes devices that do not support 802.11v from the Smart Connect function.
