Presto File Server

Overview

  • Presto File Server provides secure high-speed file transfer between Synology NAS servers and desktop clients.
  • Administrators can centrally manage transfer policies and traffic, review logs and reports, and check license status.
  • Presto File Server can be accessed through the command-line interface.

Data Transfer

  • Files can be transferred automatically and at high speed from Synology NAS to desktop clients.
  • Files can be transferred automatically and at high speed between Synology NAS servers.
  • Administrators can use Site Express to create one-way file distribution or collection tasks between sites.
  • Administrators can manually disconnect specific clients or Site Express connections.
  • Files in transfer tasks can use centralized compression and encryption settings.
  • Supports TLS and AES-128 for encrypted file transfers.
  • Supports IPv6.
  • Supports 2-step verification.
  • Supports anonymous login.
  • Login credentials are always encrypted.
  • Licenses can be purchased in the application, and a 30-day free trial can be activated.

Requirements and Limitations

  • An account with administrative privileges is required to access Presto File Server on DSM.
  • A license must be activated on every Synology NAS server that uses Site Express.
  • File transfer speed depends heavily on the network environment.

Transfer Task Management

  • The hierarchy of file transfer tasks can be adjusted by dragging and dropping tasks.
  • Transfer priorities can be assigned by file type.
  • Selected file types can be excluded from transfer tasks by adding them to a blacklist.
  • When filename conflicts occur, transferred files can be overwritten, skipped, or renamed according to the selected policy.

Transfer Policy and Bandwidth Management

  • Bandwidth rule templates can be applied to connected clients and Site Express connections.
  • Administrators can centrally configure transfer speed, encryption, and compression policies for selected users or groups.
  • File transfer policies are applied by priority and can be reordered manually.
  • Administrators can configure server-side limits for the total inbound and outbound traffic generated by all connected clients and servers.

Requirements and Limitations

  • Some transfer policies may not apply to users who use earlier client versions.

Monitoring, Logs, and Reports

  • The Overview page shows transfer status and license status in real time.
  • Logs include system logs, transfer logs, and Site Express logs.
  • Logs can be filtered and exported in HTML format.
  • Usage and statistics reports can be generated daily, weekly, monthly, or annually.
  • Reports can be viewed in the user interface, generated in HTML format, scheduled, and sent to designated email addresses.

Configuration Backup

  • Presto File Server configurations can be backed up and restored with Hyper Backup.

Affiliated Utility

Synology Presto Client

Overview

  • Synology Presto Client connects desktop clients to multiple Presto File Server sites for high-speed WAN transfers, with local controls for transfer tasks, bandwidth, search, and logs.
  • Users can operate Synology Presto Client through the command-line interface.

System Requirements

  • Synology Presto Client can be run on:
    • Windows 8 and above
    • Mac OSX 10.7 and above (64-bit)
    • Ubuntu 22.04 and above (officially supported versions)

Data Transfer

  • Clients can upload and download files at high speed over WAN through connections to multiple servers.
  • File compression and encryption can be enabled between servers and clients.
  • Users can manage file transfers by dragging and dropping files.
  • Upload and download bandwidth controls can be applied to specific server sites.
  • When filename conflicts occur, transferred files can be overwritten, skipped, or renamed according to the selected policy.
  • A single file or multiple files can be downloaded to designated default folders by double-clicking or using the context menu.
  • The client can automatically remember server addresses and account information.
  • The client automatically reconnects after a network disconnection.
  • Each client can run up to 10 concurrent file transfer tasks.
  • Supports TLS and AES-128 for encrypted file transfers.
  • Supports IPv6.
  • Supports 2-step verification.
  • Supports SSL verification.

Monitoring, Search, and Logs

  • Users can monitor transfer status across configured servers from a unified interface.
  • Users can use Task Manager to monitor, prioritize, and view files being transferred.
  • Users can configure search filters and criteria to locate files.
  • Transfer logs and system logs show the IP address, event, time, and duration of transfer tasks.

Requirements and Limitations

  • File transfer speed is at least as high as the configured rate. Actual speed may vary depending on the local network environment, server-side bandwidth limits, and the number of concurrent server connections.

Synology Presto Automator

Overview

  • Synology Presto Automator enables automated high-speed file transfers between clients and multiple servers, with customizable transfer configurations and SITA-powered scheduling.

Automated Task Scheduling

  • Transfer tasks can be created, scheduled, and viewed between clients and multiple servers running Presto File Server.
  • Tasks can continue running after the user signs out of the current operating system.
  • Each transfer task includes detailed task information.
  • Transfer tasks can be scheduled by date and time or by event triggers.

Data Transfer

  • A comprehensive overwrite policy can be configured for filename conflicts.
  • Selected file types can be excluded from transfer tasks by adding them to a blacklist.
  • Upload and download bandwidth controls can be applied to specific server sites.
  • File compression and encryption can be enabled between servers and clients.
