Backup Tasks
Create backup tasks to protect one or more Microsoft 365 tenants. Customizable settings include:
- Backup scope: Individual user services, sites, or teams
- Automatic discovery and protection of newly added:
- OneDrive and Exchange user accounts
- SharePoint sites and personal sites
- Teams
- Backup modes: Scheduled, manual, and continuous
- Retention policies: Keep versions for a specified period or keep all versions
- Configurable concurrent backup limits for accounts and files to control bandwidth consumption. Maximum limits based on RAM capacity:
- 2 GB or less: 20
- 2 GB - 4 GB: 40
- 4 GB - 16 GB: 50

Backup Limitations
Some objects are not backup-compatible or will not be backed up under certain circumstances:
- OneDrive
- Files or folders whose names or paths contain #SynoVersionRepo, #SynoRepo, or #SynoVersions
- Files or folders whose DSM paths exceed 4,016 characters
- Files or folders with names that exceed 255 characters on the backup destination
- Files or folders with names that exceed 143 characters on an encrypted backup destination
- Files and folders stored in Shared with me

- Public folder mailboxes and on-premises Exchange mailboxes (User mailboxes, shared mailboxes, archive mailboxes, resource mailboxes, and site mailboxes can be backed up.)

Portal Access
Administrators and end users can sign in to the Recovery Portal with different levels of access to backup data.
- Administrator or restore privileges: Restore or export backup data for all users.
- End users: Restore or export only their own backup data.
- Portal sign-in: End users can sign in to the Recovery Portal using their Microsoft 365 credentials when the Synology NAS is joined to Microsoft Entra Domain Services.

Restoration Limitations
- Unsupported scenarios:
- Cross-tenant restoration
- Restoration of OneDrive items whose filenames are permission
- Restoration of SharePoint folders or files when the restored path exceeds 400 characters
- Content search limitations:
- Regular expressions are not supported.
- Emojis are not supported.
- Symbols such as @, #, *, /, \, and punctuation such as !, ?, and : are not supported.
- Birthday and Anniversary fields in Contacts are not searchable.
- Dates and numbers in SharePoint Online are not searchable.
- The following stop words are ignored regardless of case: a, an, and, are, as, at, be, but, by, for, if, in, into, is, it, no, not, of, on, or, such, that, the, their, then, there, these, they, this, to, was, will, and with.
Management and Monitoring
- Allows delegation of backup and restore privileges to non-administrator users.

Reduce backup storage usage with single instancing and block-level deduplication.
- Single instancing: Files with identical content are transferred once and stored as a single copy on the Synology NAS.
- Block-level deduplication: Files stored on Btrfs volumes, except encrypted shared folders, are deduplicated across previous versions.
