Why can I not share the full abilities of my multi-function printer?

Multi-function printers, such as combo scanner, copier, printers, employ Bi-directional communications to support the scanner and other features of the printer, such as Ink-level readings. At this time bi-directional communications is not supported for Synology products. The reason is that every printer manufacture uses a different method of communicating between the printer and host PC (which is why users are required to install drivers). And there's also the fact that different models within the same manufacture uses different standards, because of proprietary technology, it is very difficult to support bi-directional communication.

At the moment, Synology products can only support printing functions for sharing USB printers.
