Need to enable telnet?

I don't think having Telnet enabled is a necessary precursor for SSH to work.
I haven't enabled Telnet and don't want to. But, NFS appears to work fine without it.

I am confused by your question, though I believe that you wanted some clarification with the article with regards to what is needed for the command line interface. It was written before SSH was available, so I've updated the article to reflect the fact that says that either Telnet or SSH is needed to enable NFS on the Synology Server
