This Hardware Assembly Guide will cover the Assembly Procedure for the RS407, RS408, RS408RP Series Models by Synology


Step 1: Remove the protective Film

If your Synology product came with a protective film on the front face plate, please remove and discard this film. This is film is used to protect the face plate during shipping, and it will interfere in the operation of the Synology product during operation.

Step 2: Hard Disk Drive Notice

Warning: If you are using a hard disk which has previous data on it, please backup the data before using it in the Synology product. The Synology product will format the hard drive and it may result in data loss.

Note:

Looking from the front of the Rack Station, where you see the LED panel, and hard drive trays, HDD1 is on the left-hand side, while HDD4 is on the right-hand side.

Step 3:

Remove a hard drive tray by pushing the release button to the right

Step 4:

A tab will be ejected out, grasp this tap and gently pull the hard drive tray out

Step 5:

Place the hard drive upside down on the table, where the SATA connectors are on the left hand side. Place the hard drive tray upside on top of the hard drive, with the tab facing the right side. Line up the four screw holes with the screws mounts on the hard drive, and secure with the hard drive screws provided

Step 6:

Gently slide the hard drive cage with hard drive back into its respectful bay

Step 7:

Gently press the blue circle on the tab to close the hard drive tray, and lock it into position

Step 8:

Repeat steps 3 through 7 for each additional hard drive that will be installed in the Rack Station

Step 9:

Install the Rack Mount Handles, and secure the Rack Mount Handles with the Rack mount screws (Hex shape)
