This Hardware Assembly Guide will cover the Assembly Procedure for the DS107, DS108j, DS207 Series Models by Synology

Step 1: Remove the protective Film

If your Synology product came with a protective film on the front face plate, please remove and discard this film. This is film is used to protect the face plate during shipping, and it will interfere in the operation of the Synology product during operation.

Step 2: Hard Disk Drive Notice

Warning: If you are using a hard disk which has previous data on it, please backup the data before using it in the Synology product. The Synology product will format the hard drive and it may result in data loss.

Step 3: Preparing Hard drives

Please connect the HDD Data and HDD Power Cables to the hard disk. Please be sure to note that the cable-end with the 90-degree bend connects to the hard drive

  • Notes
    • This step is not required for Cable-less models of the DS107
    • Examples of incorrectly installed cables
      • Please refer to the images to the right, where it displays the correct and incorrect method of installing the hard drive cables. In this case, the image to the left reflects the SATA Data cable was installed incorrectly, where the "straight-end" end is installed on the "Hard drive-side" instead of the "90-degree bend" of the data cable

Step 4:

Lay the server down on a desk, with the rear panel facing you. The exhaust fan grill should be on the left-side

Step 5:

Push the top half to slide the server cover away from you. The cover will travel about 15mm before stopping

Step 6:

Gently pull up on the upper case.

Step 7:

Rotate the Disk Station clockwise, so you are facing the bottom of the unit. Install the HDD with cables attached, where the cables ends are on the right-hand side, away from the Exhaust fan.

  • Notes:
    • For the Cable-less model, simply slide the HDD onto the SATA Connector, as depicted in the second image.
    • For DS207 models, install the the hard drive with the shortest SATA Data cable (about 80mm), this will be disk one.

Step 8:

Fix the hard drive to the disk cage with the HDD screws supplied

Step 8a:

For the DS207, install the second hard drive into the top bay. This will be disk two, please make sure that this hard drive is using the longest SATA cable of the two, (about 110mm). Afterwards, fix the hard drive to the disk cage using another set of HDD screws.

Step 9:

Install the power and data cables of the hard disks to the motherboard, in the correct order

  • Note: This step may be ignored in Cable-less models
