The Household

When Sachiko, of Seattle, found she was pregnant, she left her job as a pastry chef to devote her energies to growing a healthy baby. She and her husband were excited at the prospect of their first child. They began to prepare for their new lives as parents.

When she was notified that she was having twins, she knew they would need help. They did not live near family, so they would have to make this work on their own.

The Challenge

Though her husband could handle many of the household responsibilities, Sachiko knew she would still have to be able to turn her back on the boys periodically, if only to rest for a few minutes. A single child presents logistical challenges just to keep an eye on them. To keep up with two of them at once while her husband was at work would require more than an audio baby monitor.

As soon as they started crawling, it became difficult to even fold laundry. At the slightest sound from their room, she had to come running to find out if they were safe or about to get into trouble. She decided she needed a video baby monitor.

The Solution

She ordered a pre-configured DS210j 2050 and a pair of wireless IP cameras. Setup was quick and easy. "It took more work to mount the cameras on the wall than it did to install them to Surveillance Station," she says, "It was far cheaper and easier than I thought it would be. With a camera in the boys’ bedroom, and one near the front door, she can occasionally catch her breath with peace of mind, knowing she can watch them. "Now that they’re mobile, it seems I can’t take my eyes off them for a minute. With this camera setup, I don’t have to be standing over them all the time. I can see when one of them is trying to head for the door, again." She can finally try to get caught up and be certain that the boys are still napping safely.

Surveillance Station 5 gives her added peace of mind in a manner she didn’t anticipate. "I was initially focused on the baby-cam aspect, but with the recording feature, I can make sure they’re getting good care from the baby sitter. The baby sitter has been wonderful, but I sure wanted to check. Now I know.
