Home › Synology DiskStation Manager 2.3 > Security Security HTTPS
HTTPS is a secure way of interacting using the HTTP standard. When HTTPS connection is enabled, connecting to DSM 2.3, Web Station, Photo Station 4, File Station 3, and Audio Station 2 will be encrypted using SSL/TLS.
FirewallThe built-in firewall allows you to decide which services or IP addresses are allowed to access the DiskStation to prevent unwanted connections. Auto BlockBlocking an IP address after a pre-defined number of failed login attempts further strengthens the security of the DiskStation against unauthorized access. The auto block feature applies to the management UI, File Station, FTP Access, SSH, Telnet, and rsync, as well as mobile devices. Encryption1![]() To further protect the security of sensitive data, DSM 2.3 provides share-level AES 256-bit encryption to aid in the prevention of unauthorized access attempts. The smart data check feature ensures the encryption key security is high enough for proper protection. The encrypted shared folder is usually unmounted and inaccessible, until it is mounted by entering the encryption key. 1 Encryption available for select models only.
