Smart System MigrationSynology products are known for its reliability. However, accidents do occur. DSM helps you to reduce your panic level by offering smooth and no-sweat system migration. Simply take out the hard disks and insert them to an identical DiskStation, run the initial setup process again, and all your data and server settings will be recovered in no time. HDD S.M.A.R.T.
S.M.A.R.T., or Self-Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Technology, is a monitoring system for computer hard drives to examine and report on various attributes to alert the user of possible disk failures. Users will be able to inspect the disk information, disk S.M.A.R.T. information, and perform S.M.A.R.T. tests on the disks installed from within the DSM Management interface. S.M.A.R.T. is for experienced computer technicians who are familiar with reading and comprehending technical data from the various HDD manufactures. HDD manufactures do not adhere to one specific standard as each manufacturer has a different standard for referring to S.M.A.R.T. data. However, it is recommended to change your disk if errors are detected. Monitor Resource Usage
DSM offers two handy tools to help you monitor the resource usage of your DiskStation: Resource Monitor and SNMP protocol support. Resource Monitor allows you to easily monitor the DiskStation's CPU usage, memory usage, network flow and volume usage. The graphical illustration offers easy reading and comparison. You can choose to display all three graphs, or double click on either section to view in detail. Apart from Resource Monitor, SNMP protocol support allows you to monitor the DiskStation with existing network management software. Notification
By setting up email account and SMS authentications, the system will send out email or SMS notifications when critical events occur. Logs
Every move users make will be recorded into a Log. On the Log tab, you can view the System log, the Connection log, the Current Connection log, FTP file transfer log, File Station log, Windows file service transfer log (CIFS), File Browser log, the Backup log, the USBCopy/SDCopy1 log, and the Network Backup log. Furthermore, logs can be manually deleted or saved for further use. When the log size reaches its limit, the oldest record will be removed to conserve space. Built-in Telnet & SSH Support
Synology DiskStation is Telnet & SSH-ready. You can enable Telnet/SSH service on the DiskStation and remotely log on via Telnet/SSH. It is designed for users with a solid understanding of Linux. More apps and extensionsMaximize the potential of DiskStation with more apps and extensions! Synology offers several packages and selected 3rd-party apps. Simply install them in DSM’s Package Management and they are ready-to-use. Synology recognize the vital role that open source applications play at DiskStation, therefore we designed with developers in mind. Visit the Apps page to learn how you can add your application to DiskStation Manager. UPS
Connect an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) to your DiskStation to prevent data loss from unexpected power failure. DSM also allows multiple Synology DiskStations in the same network to share one UPS. With only one Synology DiskStation connected to the UPS, other Synology DiskStations within the same network may also be protected under the same configuration. ___
