Synology NAS - Synology DSM 2.3 :: The AJAX User Interface

Upon login, you arrive at the DSM 2.3 Desktop. The Desktop displays the application icons that are currently activated and accessible by that user account. Click the Management icon to enter the Management user interface.

Management

Within the Management interface, only a few clicks is needed to quickly configure some of the most popular features such as the Internet connection, user privileges, backup, and file sharing with the DSM 2.3 Wizards. Each wizard provides clear instructions and guides you in setting up your system, saving you valuable time and energy.

You can also switch to complete mode to see the entire list of features with a brief explanation of each function.

Customized Panel List

All features and applications are listed on the side panel. The panel automatically organizes all functions in expandable and collapsible folders, and remembers your preferences the next time you log in. DSM 2.3 also offers you the choice of managing the panel list. Hide rarely used functions by uncheck the checkbox. With the customized panel list, you can locate the functions you need even more quickly.

My Favorites

Drag and drop your favorite features to the Home page in Wizard mode and create up to 10 shortcuts under My Favorites. You can also gain access to these features instantly with the newly implemented star icon at the top of the panel.

Smart Data Check

The Smart Data Check feature checks and warns you when data is entered incorrectly. If the information is missing and invalid data is detected or a password is not confirmed, warning messages will appear automatically informing the user to recheck the entered data.

Quick Language Switch

DSM 2.3 currently supports 20 languages. A simple drop down load allows you to set the default language for both the user interface and email notification. You can also select a proper codepage for non-Unicode files to be display correctly.

The Options Button

In the Options page, set the automatic logout timer and default port number for the UI management page. With the automatic logout timer, your account will be logged out of automatically after being idle for a specified period of time. You can also the enable quick search box, use the new DSM 2.3 mini banner, and set other preferences on this page.

By clicking Options, you can customize the automatic logout timer for the DSM 2.2 management UI port, and other preferences.

Quick Search

Once enabled, the Quick Search Box is displayed at the bottom of the panel list. Enter keywords to see the list of relevant applications as you type.

Mini Banner

DSM 2.3 comes with the new mini banner, maximizing space usage without sacrificing convenience. Shortcuts to DSM 2.3's activated applications appear as icons on the banner, allowing you switch between applications quickly and easily.

Shutdown/Restart

By clicking the shutdown link at the top-right corner of each activated application, you can bring up the shutdown/restart menu.
