Synology® Updates Its High-Performance XS Series, Launches the DS3612xs and RS3412RPxs Bellevue, Washington—Synology America Corp. today announced the latest in its high performance XS series, boasting 100,000 IOPS and transfer rates over 1,000 MB/s. Launching at under $5,000, both the DS3612xs and the RS3412RPxs models can easily scale to over 100TB storage. With support for 10 gigabit Ethernet cards from both Emulex and Intel, the XS series continues to push Synology’s leadership into the sub-$10,000 market. While maintaining the same level of performance, the DS3612xs and the RS3412RPxs offer a new internal design to improve reliability. The new design takes advantage of passive cooling technology on the CPU to eliminate a single point of failure. Redundant exhaust fans are tuned to automatically adjust speed in the case that one should fail. "With the advent of the XS series, Synology is offering unrivaled performance at this price point," said Doug Self, Product Marketing Manager at Synology America Corp. "Now, with the 2012 line, we’re offering even greater reliability to pair with that performance. For users that don’t quite need a SAN, but still need performance and reliability, these are ideal." In addition to standard file sharing capabilities, they make for excellent additions to virtual environments. The XS series is compatible with VMware® vSphereTM5. Additionally, the XS series offers support for Citrix® XenServerTM and Microsoft® Hyper-VTM. Both models come with multiple NICs for MPIO and/or link aggregation. The DiskStation Manager operating system offers administrators a bevy of tools to save them time and money:
The RS3412RPxs is a 10-bay 2U rack mount NAS that will accept up to two RX1211RP expansion modules for up to 34 drives. In addition to various RAID levels available, the RS3412RPxs also sports redundant PSUs to help maximize uptime. The DS3612xs is a 12-bay desktop model that will accept up to two DX1211 expansion modules for up to 36 drives.
