With fast transfer speeds, a great processor for the price and the brilliant DSM 4.1 interface, this is our new favourite two-bay NAS enclosure
We highly recommend the DS713+ for a demanding home or small business environment. It is capable of very quick data transfer speeds, doesn't drain a lot of power at the socket and is whisper quiet.
This low-cost, four-bay NAS has all the powerful features of Synology’s more expensive products.
"...the best user interface of any commercial storage device available today, whether you’re a home or business user."
The DS413j is such an amazing unit that serves its purpose very well.
The DS413j maintains the high quality output from Synology. A powerful 4 bay NAS running the latest DSM 4.1 software it's difficult to find fault with the DS413j.
"Powerful, expandable and built to last. Ideal for a large business environment."
"The RS3412RPxs is currently available in the United Kingdom for £2,757 inc vat. Obviously this is not marketed as a home NAS server, so we need to look at the cost from a different viewpoint. For the target audience a sub £3k price point is very reasonable, especially considering the expandability and performance available. The option of adding more memory and a performance network interface will be very welcomed by database intensive organisations."
"Synology’s new DS413j is perfect for small businesses that require a 4-bay NAS with complete flexibility and control. DSM increases productivity and has the capabilities of satisfying all users’ needs. We have been impressed yet again, DS413j attains our Gold award."
"The DS413j maintains the high quality output from Synology. A powerful 4 bay NAS running the latest DSM 4.1 software it's difficult to find fault with the DS413j."
"The installation process was very simple. Within minutes of taking the DS413j out its packaging we had installed a drive in it and we were using the new Web Assistant to install the software. With the latest software downloaded directly from Synology, the Web Assistant is a great new tool."
"The Synology DS413j provides an excellent solution for home users wanting a home NAS server with huge storage potential (up to 16TB). Even as a budget model transfer speeds are more than adequate to allow using the storage and any desired DSM apps to their full potential."
"The brilliance of the Synology range really lies within the DSM software which is very easy to navigate and gives access to the full functionality of any Synology device."
It's expensive, but with fast transfer speeds and a massive range of features, this could be the only NAS your business ever needs.
The Synology DiskStation DS212 is a mid-range two-bay NAS drive that's packed with features for both home and business use. You'll probably use only a fraction of the DS212's features, but its huge range means there's almost certainly the functions you need. Cloud Station is a welcome new feature and, given updates we've seen in the past, there will be even more added in each new version of DiskStation Manager.
Synology wins the CPC & Bit 2012 Award for the category of Best Networking Manufacturer.
The best a NAS can get. You can get much cheaper NASes, but that would be a false economy.
The DS1812+ is a top NAS appliance for small businesses that’s affordable, fast and brimming with new features.
The Synology DiskStation DS412+ is compact but powerful four-bay NAS drive with sophisticated features and services, while still remaining accessible to non-specialists. It also has superb read/write performance. Thanks to its best-in-class interface it can be tackled by non-specialist users, whether applying it into service as a powerful home media server or business storage and virtualisation device.
Synology DiskStation DS411slim is designed to provide users with a compact yet feature laden solution for easy file sharing and backup. Snap-in 2.5”hard drives design brings low power consumption, quiet operation, reliability and easy disk replacement in a compact size. With support for media server, backup, VPN server hosting and much more I can't recommend the DS411slim highly enough for both small business and home users.
The Synology DiskStation DS3612xs is a very powerful NAS. The hardware looks great and it comes with the DSM 4.0 NAS operating system. It's not only user-friendly but comes with tons of features. Of course the ease of use is a strong point, but we want to emphasise how versatile this NAS really is. It comes closer to being a complete and compact company server than just a NAS, that is also very simple install. The performance is excellent. The DS3612xs has four gigabit ports, and has the option for a 10 Gbit adapter as well. You do have the possibility to expand to 36 disks with the additional disk case. Compared to other NAS devices in the same class, the price suddenly sounds much better. That is also why the Synology DS3612xs earns the Hardware.Info Bronze Award.
The DS2411+ is quiet, has many features, is user-friendly and also very versatile. It's a good solution if you like to hoard digital things, or a very professional storage solution for a company that needs large amounts of reliable storage. If you outgrow the currenty capacity and you need to add drives, this is easy to do thanks to Synology Hybrid Raid. Thanks to the good price/quality ratio we felt that the Synology DiskStation DS2411+ deserves the Hardware.Info Bronze Award, even if its price seems high, but that is only the case when you don't put it into perspective.
If you're looking for a NAS with a lot of features, then Synology is the brand for you. The new DSM 4.0 makes their NAS devices even more interesting, and the performance is more than acceptable as well. The DS212j is a fast and versatile entry-level NAS. The DS212 is worth the extra expenditure if you need extra and faster connections. Both the DS212j and the DS212 earn the Hardware.Info Silver Award.
The Synology has all-round class – it’s fast, feature-packed and blessed with the best interface of any NAS on the market. And with an imminent DSM4 update on its way, promising a whole host of new cloud storage features, the DS212j is only going to improve.
The list of features that Synology's DiskStations are equipped with has just got longer and the Cloud Station is superb...if you're in the market for a dual-bay NAS enclosure with £200 or less to spend, this is the one to go for.
Synology's DiskStation DS2411+ is aimed at small to medium-sized studios that need a file server which isn't rack-mounted and doesn't require the services of an IT bod to manage it. Simple to setup using the Synology Assistant configuration tool. We'd have no hesitation in recommending the DS2411+ to studios looking for a flexible, versatile NAS solution.
Fine performance and seemingly never-ending array of talents combine with a superb interface. A perfect balance of price and performance.
The DS411j's DSM3.2 operating system looks like a slick desktop UI, and offers genuine multitasking. Icons of regularly use features can be dragged onto the DSM desktops, and a search function locates features and related help items in a flash.
The DiskStation DS712+ is superfast and potentially vast (with the DX510 five-bay expansion unit), and it has a wonderful operating system. This business-friendly box can connect to Synology's five-bay DX510 external expansion unit to accommodate up to seven drives. Beyond expandability, the DiskStation DS712+ offers Synology's capable operating system and excellent performance.
Synology's two-bay, DiskStation DS212+ provides great performance and state-of-the-art connectivity, but it lacks the expandability and physical security of its sibling, the DiskStation DS712+. With 512MB of memory and a 2GHz Marvell Kirkwood mv6282 CPU, the DS212+ easily surpasses the performance of its DiskStation DS211+ predecessor--and most of the other two-bay boxes we've tested.
The DiskStation DS111 delivers a comprehensive set of features in a great looking, easy to use package. The company’s forthcoming DSM 4.0 is already showing a lot of promise, even in beta form, with brand new Cloud-based features and a new, modular application approach that allows users to fine tune the NAS server’s feature set to their specific needs. Whilst it may be an entry-level device, make no mistake, Synology delivers a heck of a lot of NAS in the DiskStation DS111.
The DS212j is the follow-up to our favorite NAS device, the DS211j, and comes with a larger, quieter 92mm fan. The web interface is a dream, thanks to its icon-driven interface. Its the best NAS device there is.
The Synology DiskStation DS112j offers an excellent basic entry product for anyone looking to begin using network attached storage. With the brand new DSM 4.0 software offering class leading functionality with a fresh design and the very simple installation and set up the DS112j should be at the top of anyone's shopping list.
Synology’s new RS3411xs offers serious expansion potential, but that’s only the beginning of its strengths. It’s the only SMB NAS appliance we’ve seen with two high-speed InfiniBand links; it supports a single or dual-port 10GbE card; and it sports a powerful Core i3 CPU.
"...we have to commend Synology on its relentless upgrade schedule, which allows it to keep up with and very often stay one step ahead of the competition."
"The DS212+ offers some of the best speeds we've seen from a NAS enclosure and has some real benefits over previous models, namely USB 3.0 and a faster CPU."
"[DS3612xs'] enormous expansion potential makes it a good long-term investment and the number of features Synology is packing into its NAS appliances makes many competing products look positively archaic in comparison."
"Real-world speeds for read/write are impressive and backup operations are similarly quick."
"This high capacity desktop appliance delivers top performance over Gigabit and 10-Gigabit networks, and offers a huge expansion potential via high-speed Infiniband ports."
"[...] the RS3412xs, is a scalable appliance capable of meeting the storage needs of many medium-sized companies [...] with optional 10GbE connectivity plus VMware and Hyper-V certification it offers a lot more than your average SME product."
"Synology is also emphasising virtualisation support on this model, in particular claiming compliance with VMware's vSphere 5, including support for the new VMFS-5 file system. [...] It's good to see Synology prioritising the needs of datacentre users with DSM 4.0 [...]"

Synology DiskStation DS411slim received "Recommended" and scored 9 out of 10 from TrustedReviews.com, U.K.
"Synology's DiskStation Manager also remains one of the most ingenious and easy to use NAS UIs on the market and extras like mobile apps, security camera and printer support make it a thoroughly comprehensive solution."
"[...] Synology has created a NAS which is every bit the performance and functionality rival of its larger siblings, but with a more living room friendly demeanor."
