Synology DiskStation DS1010+ and DX510
Mr. Patrick Mascart, Photographer of Scorpix
“The best price/performance and simplicity of use are the strengths of the Synology DS1010+ and DX510. They fulfill all of our requirements, and we are delighted by this investment. We sincerely recommend the Synology NAS servers.”
Scorpix was founded in Belgium in 2005. The company is specialized in corporate photography and is composed of 4 staff and 10 freelance photographers to fulfill clients’ requests. Scorpix’s clients include large communication agencies, public institutions, NGOs and other multinational corporations; for example, Conservation International, Thalys International, European Commission, European Service Network, WWF, Reuters, Financial Times, Der Spiegel, Ogilvy Belgium, etc. Its photographers cover important European events, take portraits, and produce corporate marketing materials.
Specializing in corporate photography, Scorpix has to meet clients’ urgent requests and tight deadlines. Photographer Mr. Patrick Mascart said, “We must be capable of finding fast solutions to deliver our images, including both upload and download, so that customers can access photos right after or even during events.”
Also, the photographers produce a lot of high resolution photos, about 8TB annually. Scorpix needs a complete backup solution for those precious images. Moreover, when the staff have meetings with clients, displaying photos on flat TV screen is troublesome, as dedicated computers are needed.
After thorough investigations, Scorpix chose the Synology DS1010 + along with the DX510 expansion unit, not only for its price/performance, but also for its user-friendly configurations.
Centralized Storage and Round-up Backup
Scorpix backs up all data from desktops to the DS1010+ by using Synology Data Replicator scheduled every night, and then uses the local backup function to back up data from the DS1010+ to the DX510. With the centralized storage space which can be accessed by all staff, the IT specialist does not have to separately cope with data in the hard disk of each photographer’s computer. With the round-up backup, all precious photos are securely protected, without the worry of hard disk crash.
Seamless File Sharing
Mr. Mascart is impressed by the incredible amount of time that the DS1010 + can save for the photographers and clients. It allows photographers to transmit their photos directly to the office, and the customers can download files via Scorpix’s FTP. It is also very easy to manage dedicated FTP accounts for clients.
Mr. Mascart said, “Compared with the previous work mode, we now saves up to 12 hours of a week for upload and download. The work flow is smoother and more efficient!”
While working in major European events, Scorpix’s photographers stored all the event photos on the DS1010+, and the journalists downloaded the images to illustrate their articles from the NAS server via internet.
As the DS1010+ has the DLNA/UPnP support, there is no need to place dedicated PCs in the meeting rooms. The staff can stream photos directly from the DS1010+ to present to clients on the flat TV screens. This can save the budget of setting up PCs in the meeting room.
The Synology products offer centralized storage, round-up backup, multimedia support, and especially its high performance saving considerable time during file transfer. With the outstanding performance, Scorpix’s photographers can upload images during events from any location, and the clients can download them timely to meet deadlines. The working process is more efficient.
“The best price/performance and simplicity of use are the strengths of the Synology DS1010+ and DX510. They fulfill all of our requirements, and we are delighted by this investment. We sincerely recommend the Synology NAS servers,” said Mr. Mascart.
