The Company

C2 Education was founded as a tutoring program in a dorm room at Harvard. Since its inception in 1997, C2 Education has grown to include over 110 learning centers across the US, Canada, and South Korea and serves more than 15,000 students and their families each week.

The C2 difference lies in their innovative teaching methods, tools, and academic delivery. Whether tutoring for a K-12 audience or test prep for the SAT, ACT, or other exam, C2 ensures each student receives a program to fit their needs.

The Challenge

The C2 Education headquarters in Duluth, GA is the hub for over 110 learning centers. As such, remote users often have the need to retrieve files from HQ and needed a device to host and backup files.

"Our primary challenge was finding a device that would be robust, reliable, and well-supported," said Jim Narangajavana, Vice President of C2 Education.

Jim needed to be able to share files locally with the 20 computers at C2 Education’s headquarters while making those files available when needed to remote users. With both Windows® and Apple® computers accessing files, it had to support file sharing and backup from multiple platforms.

The Solution

After researching available options, Jim found the Synology DiskStation DS410.

"Synology garnered consistently high marks and reviews, and had a long list of features," Jim said. The ability to serve several roles for C2 Education’s offices while remaining easy to setup and maintain was mostimportant to Jim.

Jim said the key features that stood out about the DS410 were, "Quick and easy recognition by Windows and Macs for file sharing, easy user group permissions configuration, built in FTP access, and built in backup options."

With Synology DiskStation Manager 2.3, C2 Education gains peace of mind through automatic backups of all 20 computers on the network. Curricula, student files, schedules, and other sensitive data can all be stored in one secure location. Files stored on their DS410 are easily accessible across the network and it is simple to ensure sensitive material is only seen by those with authorization.

As with most businesses that need data security and uptime, support is critical to C2 Education. With Synology’s 2 year warranty and US-based, in-house and dedicated support team, the DS410 supplies both security and uptime.

"I have contacted customer service numerous times to ask both simple and complex questions for adapting the DS410’s use to our office. I am computer saavy, but do not have IT experience or familiarity with servers and NAS drives. Everytime I have called up, the technicians have been very patient and helpful, sticking with me from question to solution. Unlike most technical support centers, I rarely had to wait more than a couple of minutes, and I always felt like they listened to my questions completely," Jim said. He continued, "I can say without exaggeration that Synology has the best technical support service I have experienced to date with any computer-related product."

Network-attached storage can sometimes seem like a daunting undertaking for even those that have a basic knowledge of network administration. Synology DiskStations ease the process for users like Jim Narangajavana at C2 Education, where the DiskStation plays several crucial roles, installing and maintaining just one device saves both time and money. With more time to focus on creating innovative teaching methods and curriculum, the team at C2 Education will continue to help students reach their educational goals.
