Release Notes of SSH Patches

Before Applying This Patch:

The SSH patch allows users to enable SSH service on Synology Product, and disable in a later time if wished. It is designed for users who possess very good knowledge of Linux and SSH. With this add-on, users will be able to integrate 3rd party software/applications into Synology Product.

However, please be aware before applying this patch that any improper manipulation or modification on your Synology Product may result in machine malfunction.

Applied models*:

  • Disk Station Series: DS207+, DS207, DS107+, DS107, DS107e, DS-106, DS-106e, DS-106j, DS-101j
  • Cube Station Series: CS407, CS407e, CS-406, CS-406e
  • Rack Station Series: RS407, RS-406

To Enable SSH:

  1. Upgrade your Synology Product to firmware versions: v2.0.3 – 0518 or onward
  2. Download the file "EnableSSH.zip"
  3. Unzip it to have "EnableSSH.pat"
  4. Go to "System > Firmware Upgrade" page in the web management interface to apply the patch

To Disable SSH:

  1. Download the file "DisableSSH.zip"
  2. Unzip it to have "DisableSSH.pat"
  3. Go to "System > Firmware Upgrade" page in the web management interface to apply the patch

Special Notes:

  1. Port of SSH service: 22; login account: "root", password: the same password of Admin
  2. The two patches are applicable to only firmware version v2.0.3 – 0518 and onward.
  3. When the SSH service is enabled, your Synology Product will be capable of receiving encrypted network backup files, even when the Network Backup service is not enabled.
  4. Once SSH is enabled in your Synology Product, performing Restore Defaults or Firmware Upgrade won’t disable it until applying DisableSSH patch.

* All new models launched in 2008 are also included: DS508, RS408, RS408-RP, and DS108j.
