External Hard Drives See Product Specification for the applied models. By connecting external USB or SATA hard drives to the Synology Product, you can either expand the storage capacity or perform local backup. Just simply click Format and then choose the purpose you want to use the external hard drive for. After the hard drive has been formatted, you can move on to store files or doing backup right away.
