The performance is great but the best part is the support provided by Synology. Even though my Disk Station is last years model they continue to release firmware upgrades that can be applied to any model.

For example they recently released a new management interface that supports, amongst other things, SSL/TLS over FTP and HTTPS web connections. On top of that there’s a patch available on their support page that enables SSH or Telnet connections into the Disk Station.

I've just been testing the SSH support that this evening, backing up some data using rsync over SSH, also connecting directly over SSH to tidy up some files and it works like a dream.

Synology seems to be one company that, unlike many others, allows advanced users open access to the product instead of locking down the system. Even though my server only has 32MB of RAM it essentially means that I have my own Linux box at a cut down price with none of the hassle of making my own server.

On top of that it uses very little power and is almost silent in use, just a slight hum from the hard drive. In the future I'll definitely consider upgrading to a two disk device that supports RAID1 for extra security."

I really appreciate the Telnet access so I could put on some of my own software to talk to X-Box 360. I hope you keep your policy of making the device friendly to normal users but still keeping it open for modifications by more technically advanced users.

And I am happy to see that you are doing the right thing by making GPL sources available. I will probably upgrade to your new versions when I run out of diskspace on my 101j.

1. The installation and web management are so easy to use.
2. It is the only NAS I could find that actually listed my printer as supported.
3. It is also the only NAS I could find that can let you dig deep down inside it's inner workings thanks to it's Telnet/SSH support.

I am most impressed by there frequent Firmware updates. It seems like every time I look they have new firmware for all their products that add even more functionality.

The Disk Station's software is very good and Synology continue to bring out improvements to the software, which they make backwards compatible with legacy products. Full marks for Synology for going that extra mile.

Why?

1. Because Synology keeps updating and improving both new and existing products with new features/firmware. Other venders forget about their customers after the sale so you are stuck with limitations in your existing solution but Synology continuously improves them (This in turns helps make me a loyal customer as well).
2. I get good support from Synology when I need it. I had a purchase problem earlier this year and Synology helped me much more then could be expected.
3. The Synology product has lots of features and just work. If I lack a feature it usually comes up in the next firmware revision.
4. Open with SSH login access the embedded linux inside."

The product itself is a extremly fun to work with and easy to configure the way you want it.

Today I connected the remote and USB speakers (x-mas presents ;) ,and I listen to music though my high end Hi-Fi system and must say that the quality I get is not the quality that I expected....... It is MUCH better! btw connecting took 4 minutes.

I bought a Synology CS407 for my home network a few weeks back after trying to use other "low end" network disks which always has disappointed me before.

I mounted 4x500Gb disks in a RAID 5 configuration. The results has been beyond my expectations in every way. It is very dependable, quiet and fast with a very user-friendly intuitive interface.

I also installed the updated firmware with the new Audio Station and File Station functionality.

This is also why I write You now, I have a small USB audio unit with line out function and have connected it to a FM-transmitter which is always on. This means I have a working radio station which can be controlled via a web interface, it works perfectly!! The transmitter is strong enough to reach all around the house and the garden."

Just finished setting up my new CS407. Works really well with Active Directory. All my domain users (wife and kids) are happily enjoying the huge storage and peace of mind offered by RAID 5.

Just got my DS207 (128 MB) up and running. This box is just great!

My primary need was to have a NAS in my home network for storing of the growing amount of pictures, and also make these accessible to everyone in the house without having to boot a PC.

I have also noticed an increase in performance. I am quite happy with that too as previous versions makes browsing the photos rather painful.

I have noticed that there are indication that thumbnails are being created instead of not showing the pics without thumbnail. That is great improvement as I did not know whether if there is a problem or just taking time to create the thumbnails. Though I would be really happy if the thumbnails are created faster - I suppose this is limited by hardware.

I bought the DS106 in 2006 and its just great. I am very satisfied. In use is a Linkstation as well but the DS106 is my favourite. Build in is 400GB HD.

In use is Joomla, Photoserver, FTP-Server.... Updated to FW to 426 in 01/2007 w/o any problems.(!!!) Just a great product and development! Go ahead!

One thing very important from my point of view and probably the reason why I purchased this product : a real support with frequent update.

Most NAS (Network attached Storage) support RAID and are a good investment for archiving your data or creating a multimedia streaming server. After evaluating the market of NAS I found two interesting NAS products with RAID 5. One was the Tera Station from Buffalo and the other one was the Cube Station of Synology. The Tera Station needs a lot of power and is noisy and has a really old version of Samba. The Cube Station doesn’t look as cool as the Tera Station but you have great functionality like printing server, web server, database, photo album, streaming capability and lots more. Well, the total cost of the Cube Station without any hard disk equals to the total costs of the Tera Station with 1 TB already included.

I decided to buy 4 really silent hard disks of Samsung in combination with the Cube Station CS-406. The Cube Station-Series looks like an air conditioner, but its functionality is great. I feel really relaxed thinking on working for my diploma thesis. Saving the work on the NAS is quite safe. With this RAID server I don’t have to worry about a hard disk crash."

Thought there is some noise when the hard drive is in use. But luckily enough it has a great hibernation option which will change the device in a small quiet server. The support from Synology is as good as the product itself!

I'd like to thank you for releasing the new firmware 2.0.1 - 3.0371 for my DS-101. I was happy with it all the time. But now, with all the new features (UPnP, Web Server with PHP and MySQL...), I am thrilled and fascinated!! Thank you for a sublime product(DS-101g+). I have nat had ONE second thought about buying this. I'm even recommending the diskstation. This system have not had a breakdown in the 6 months i've owned it.

First, let me start by saying how great of a product the DS101g+ was. I was looking for an inexpensive, reliable NAS device, and this one fits the bill perfectly. It's super easy to set up, and uses very little power (I leave mine on 24/7). I would absolutely recommend this to anyone else shopping around for a NAS device.

Last summer I began looking for high capacity NAS for my own SOHO application.
Then a nightmare get started with hard- and firmware related malfunctions, specification deviations, piles of e-mails with supplier/manufacturer etc.

Today, a week after purchase, I´m really really satisfied with my third bought NAS which is a Synology DiskStation DS-101g+ equipped with a HDD (400GB) from WesternDigital  designated Caviar WD4000KD. They works fine together.

In my opinion, the Synology DiskStation is on the best way to offer a leading Storage-and-More-Solution for the SOHO market.

Around a year ago I purchased a Disk Station 101 as my private server and quite soon after I bought two more for my brewery, pub and restaurant in Copenhagen.
