Synology products are designed with energy efficiency in mind. The DiskStations/RackStations consume relatively much less power than the average PC servers. When it’s not running any operation, DiskStation will boot into hibernation mode to preserve energy. All Synology products are RoHS compliant and use recyclable packing materials. We believe we are a global citizen and it is our responsibility to continuously work towards reducing environmental impact.
HDD Hibernation is a way to preserve energy. The DiskStation will automatically enter hibernation mode when the hard drives stop being accessed after a certain period of time to save more power. When access to hard drives is resumed, the system will boot out of hibernation mode into standard power consumption status.
The custom-designed smart fan control mechanism gives you three modes to automatically adjust fan speed under different circumstances – Cool Mode, Quiet Mode and Low-Power Mode. The smart fan control applies to both 3.5” and 2.5” HDD.
You can regularly schedule routine shutdowns and startups for your DiskStation and Wi-Fi service. This is one of the primary reasons that make Synology products “green” as they are.
The Wake on LAN (WOL)1 technology enables DiskStation to start up remotely over local area network (LAN). Use Synology Assistant or any other WOL applications to active DiskStation from hibernation mode.
